Obsolescence, Cursive and Chocolate Chips

So much has been written about cursive and whether or not it should be taught in this age of tapping out letters and texts.  I got an email listing seven things that would disappear in the next ten years:
the Post Office, written books, our history as we know it (instead we would store our memories in "clouds" held in security on memory banks by corporations ), CD's will go the way of the vinyl record, DVD's go the way of the VHS tapes,  the telephone landline and so on.
 I deleted the text.
I started to think what would be permanent,  to stay with us for a long time.

I am so annoyed that I have letters in German old script that I cannot read, or barely decipher, because each letter is not the same as we learned.  I shudder to think how anyone will be able to read any  papers, let alone the Declaration of Independence, if the rudiments of cursive are NOT taught.  Sure, maybe the old timers stressed cursive more than we would, but to ban it?  I'm not so sure that is a good idea...

I honestly think chocolate chips are here to stay.  I cannot think of Christmas, Thanksgiving, or a special event without cookies, and someone making a batch where the kids eat some cookie dough.

Bird feeders will stay forever, so that we can attract those beautiful singers to our windows.  I will not believe we can survive without them, either at a birdbath or at a seed feeder.  So therefore bird seed will be a permanent product in society.

As long as there are people, there will be puppies and kittens.  People depend on their friends, the cats and dogs, so I believe they are also permanent.  Not everyone wants a pet, but we welcome them into our homes at different times in our lives.  It is a sure thing!

Neighbors will be there in all times, maybe good, maybe bad, but you can count on your neighbors.  They will never leave our society.  In fact, it might be a thing of the future to be more involved with our neighbors, since we may have to interact more with them through the internet and in real life.

Stupid will not go away.  Count on that.  Ugly acts will stay with us forever, and rude will follow us all the days of our lives.  I wish that some commercials and books would teach to "stupid" rather than to the test.  I'm not trying to be insulting, but thinking before we act is always a lesson that needs working through, which is not taught enough.  Filtering out words that are ugly or might hurt before we say them should also be taught, but I do not think this will ever be obsolete.  This will always be with society.

No matter how many electronics we develop, how technologically advanced we become, the arts will remain.  Music, Dance, and the Arts will survive.  The debate will be, as new mediums and forms arise, as it was when the first photography was compared to the oils of the day, "Is THIS also ART?"

Families might survive.  I think the idea of grouping together to help live, eat, sleep and share your troubles with those you care about just might be the best way to make it in the world, whether or not economic times are rough.  It might not even depend on the technology of the world.  It just works best.

I think my opinions  are pretty solid, except I'm really worried about the chocolate chips, since the disaster last year when Twinkies went off the market!
