Frozen Turkey Breasts
Walking, walking through the swirling water. Swing my arms, striding large, and moving with the flowing current.
Some walkers are slow, amble and sway so slightly side to side. Others spend the time in conversation, it is their time for interactions with other senior citizens.
The driven walkers speed by, passing everyone, creating swirls, nearly knocking others over with their haste to get around the walking water loop at the Y.
Some seniors pass through the loop to get to the center, where they sit and visit with others, in the warm bubbling seats of the hot tub.
I hear voices in my mind, I wonder, is that my Mother speaking to me?
"Swing those arms, when you walk! It is healthy to use your entire body to balance. Exercise your inner self, not just legs to walk. Your entire insides twist and get exercise, the back, the head, the legs, when you walk in a straight line, one foot in front of another."
I notice a sea of frozen pink turkey breasts floating above the water. There is one brown, roasted turkey; the man who must have over tanned this winter.
I work my arms and back even more. I must use the upper body, I must put my feet into a line, not side by side, and give my entire body a workout by walking as my Mother's voice shouts into my brain.
Some would say I am channeling my Mother.
Is it that? Or is it genetics coming through?
The frozen turkey breasts surround me, and I fight to walk between them, listening to my Mother, as she continues to comment on their "incorrect" stance.
Thanksgiving is near.
