Home game four vs Madeira

I check the weather report by calling my oldest son.
"The light rain should pass, Mom.  Good luck for the game."
"Thanks, Thom."

I head out, bag with a rain poncho, umbrella, blanket, purse, just in case.  I stop by the snack bar for a popcorn and iced tea, game isn't to start until 5.
I watch the teams warming up on the field under dark clouds.
Three sharply dressed officials are hurrying onto the field as some of our players rush back to the lockers.

Not many spectators yet, it's only four thirty.  I move toward the bleachers, where Diane suggests I sit at the top,  "It's still dry up here!"

Cheerleaders are warming up, I see the officials are waving the teams up, they want to start.
"Why are they starting so soon?"
"No one's here yet!"
"Maybe they have another appointment.  HE may have a doctor visit and have to leave after the game."

"They are in such a hurry we didn't even get to sing the anthem!"

And we're off.
Madeira is in blue, and they have a sweep move, and they are moving our team down the field.

"The coach thought they would be sluggish when I brought fruit for a snack."
"Really?  I'm surprised!  They are just so social...I wish they would say, 'yes! rain!!!!Let's play in the mud get down and dirty!', but I guess they are beyond that age.  "

We are not into the game, but the other team is playing hard.  Our coaches keep putting their hands on their heads after each play.  Sign for, "UH OH!"  The other team throws far, and makes the first touchdown.  Score is 6 zero.  It is time for us to wake up.

Close to five o'clock, the parents fill the seats, loudly supporting their team.  The game continues, our team figures out how to hold the blue team from making yardage, hitting their receivers, and making any more goals.
Our quarterback makes a long pass, number twenty five Ryan is open, and makes a touchdown, tying the score.

Enoch has a great game, working through the line of larger players, but he is faster.

Weslee almost made a catch, but it was too high.  Another pass was right to him, and the announcer said, "And he makes it to the ......two inch line!"
The next play, Kenny gets through the middle for our second touch down.  It is twelve to six.
We have an amazing cheer leading squad, and a Mom that can do a Warrior yell that the cheerleaders are practicing.  She encourages players with her warrior call, that brings chills up your spine.

With only a few minutes to play, and our team had kept the blue from scoring or moving down the field effectively, our great quarterback was limping off the field.

"We have a back up plan," was the whisper.

And number ten, Mitchell came to practice a few snaps.
I could see the confidence he had as he stood behind the line, as he told his men what the play would be.  The first play, the line did their job, and opened up a gap.  Number twenty, Enoch took the ball down the middle,  for a huge gain.  The second and third plays were not as impressive, but the team work and the determination brought the Wildcats close to the goal.
Final score  Wildcats twelve, Madeira six.
No more rain.
