Thanksgiving News
I've learned these things about myself and my family. We meet and eat at Thanksgiving, but after a year, it is a "re-learning" process.
I recognize characters from The Muppets in my family- we have chosen each other, and do not need to be blood related.
Our eating habits have changed- Cassy is not drinking fizzy drinks, meat or dairy; I cannot eat dairy; little ones are adding adult food to their plates.
I set up the corn hole game in the basement, but I cannot make the others play. I encourage setting up the Christmas tree, but instead they go out and buy lights to decorate the house. It looks very nice. Adults are not guided by their parents' requests.
I insist upon the "say something nice" about the person next to you, and am so glad I did. It is always important to find a reason to have kind words about the person you are with, or have just met.
My children are not little ones, but adults. It is amazing to see them as grown up. I see the World in Them, and am secure knowing something positive survives.
I surprise myself, that eating turkey for 5 days, does not tire me, but I enjoy it each time: turkey pot pie(with potatoes, layer of veggies, turkey, dressing on top, gravy and bake); turkey vegetable soup(with a can of corn, beans, and broth); lots of plates of turkey dinners warmed up- just love that!
Did not buy or prepare chestnuts this year. Missed them, but no one eats them, but me. They are work intensive, and I did not want to do the hard work. I just closed my eyes and imagined they were on the plate. Mmmmmmm.
I have baggies of turkey in the freezer, and even bought a second turkey to cook later. Just can't get enough!!!!
And I started a new tradition. Thanksgiving week I took out a bunch of cards, not necessarily Christmas cards, but "Thankfulness cards" and wrote a personal note to those people that meant a lot to me in my life. I wanted to say "Thank You" to those that had really put their energy and knowledge out for me, to help me, and I needed to show how much I realized their generosity and efforts. After all, not all those we are thankful to attend our family Thanksgiving!
