A little nudge

So my yearly doctor visit was this morning- and the blood vein was easily found.  What a relief!  That nurse was experienced with small veins, and used a tiny needle, and then when I asked, "Is this an inherited trait?"  She told me it was, and that some people just have big veins, some have small ones.  Now I will just wait for the test results.
I got doctor's orders to have my eyes examined, have a mammogram, stop eating all dairy products, research the lap-band surgery and see her in a month.  Whew...
I have been noticing how little money I have to live on these days, and how quickly I have blown through my retirement funds.  Inflation kills thousands each year, I use a lot just to make ends meet, because social security does not pay the rent.  I decided I must get back to work.
My first idea was to substitute teach in the schools around here.  I love anything with kids, and that would be fun for me.  I went online and started with the application, but whoops, what to do about the professional references?  Mrs. Banks was about 35 years my senior when I student taught, so I would think she is....deceased.  My professors at college, my advisers, the teachers that were mentors, I believe all gone.  I have not taught for about 15 years in a school surrounding.  Then I came to the page for certification.  I left that one blank, since I let my license lapse.  Now I am getting emails "unfinished application for teaching  on file!" to my address.
I decided to go directly to the local Board of Education to ask for information.  I got a form for a temporary certificate for a substitute teaching position.  When I have a transcript of grades, an interview, a police check,  and about $75.  I can get on the list(I think).
I went to the University website, clicked on  "Registrar".  Up came transcripts, and I had the fleeting thought, "This sure is easier than it was years ago when you had to write a letter and send a check through the mail!"
I enter names and address- oops, need to make an address change, phone change- but let us continue...
I move ahead and verify that I can read a group of numbers- hummmmmm, red notes- "does not compute"
Try again,  and again, I see there is a phone number you can call, so I'll try that.  "Yes, I need my transcript, and cannot get recognized by the website."  A youngish voice politely asks the appropriate questions.

"My name...married name,  you cannot find me either?" More concerned searching, questioning, and he transfers me to the Head Registrar.  I must hold while this Important ONE is connected.
"Yes?  This is Wendy. I will be your registrar.  I think your birth date was 01/11/1943?  Aha!  We need to awaken this other computer sitting in the corner. You came here in the sixties, when these other computers were in use, and so we will just nudge her awake.  As a matter of fact we were just working on your records today, converting them to the newer system.  And here I have your Master of Education, completed in 1991, so I do have all your records.  We just had to get the system going.  Not to worry!.  Now go back to the website, and sign up for a copy and you will have it in a couple of days.  I will make sure it is all complete!  You have not asked for a transcript in a while, but this is all ready to go.  Any other problems, just call for Wendy!"
I am now confident that I have done more than a full day's work, but no pay is forthcoming. Sometimes the work we do sitting in front of the computer, waiting for the messages to turn out to be the way we want wears us out, and wears us down.
