Canada-Wow

Last night I got hit on the blog by Canada !yahoo!
Aerial view Expo '67 Montreal
The first trip I took to Canada was for the Expo '67 with a High School friend, Baiba, and we had a wonderful time.  My good friend Jan was coming from Germany to dance in an Operetta, "Das Land des Lachens", and we would meet her parents there, watch the show, and visit the pavillions.  It was a blast!  I loved the huge Biosphere.  It was amazing!  We got rooms at a small religious college nearby, slept in  what seemed like "nun's quarters", for almost nothing, and had a wonderful experience.
I recall a great trip I set up as teacher at Tarkio College a few years back with some French students, for college credit, meaning I was the teacher, and they got credit for traveling.  I think those were really great days when learning took place with more than the book approach!
Toronto, Canada
First we went to Toronto.  Listen, you have to go to Toronto sometime!!!!!
It is the most beautiful city on this continent.  First it is clean(or was, is it still?), what beautiful architecture- mixing old and new, and pleasant in a quaint way.  We visited the Houses of Government,  Museums, and restaurants (not in that order), stayed in  reasonable hotels(are they still there?) and then traveled on to Quebec City.
This was a French language course, so we also went to French speaking areas.  I enjoyed the atmosphere immensely, people were so friendly, and we enjoyed the ice festival, even though it was very cold.  We even went skiing for a week at Mont-Tremblant, north of Montreal.

Mont-Tremblant
I did not realize how bundled up we could get and still enjoy the beauty of the countryside, ski and laugh at the lodge.  What a great vacation it was, I still recall it now.

  1. I had the chance to travel to Canada in 2006 and loved it. My favorite city was Vancouver but loved all that I visited: Montreal, Quebec City & Toronto. I have the best memories of my time there as well.
    Greetings from Argentina!
