Modern Day Conveniences
It had come to my attention, that there is a loud echo in the bathrooms of most modern facilities. In addition there are now light sensitive toilets, water faucets, and towel dispensers in the best restaurants. I guess it is the easiest way to deal with the customers' needs in those facilities. I am amazed at how loud the echo in those bathroom is. Probably the walls are double insulated in order not to shake the persons eating quietly at their tables in the main part of the restaurant whenever someone flushes. I say "flushes" but here is what REALLY happens. A lady rises gently from her position on the throne, and steps forward to adjust her attire. Instantaneously like a train whooshing by "behind", the sound of a sucking tornado whips the remains of what was left away. You jump clear, to make sure you are not whisked away by the force of the vacuum. By the time you look back, nothing is moving, as if you dreamed it all. Only the scary whooshes from other stalls reminds you, "Yes, this is what happens!"
At the sink, there is no faucet, no handle, no hot or cold "H" or "C" to help get you started. Lucky I sometimes carry a handsanitizing lotion with me. I wave my hands around, hoping to "catch" a wave of water somewhere, and sometimes I do. Sometimes you have to press forward on the top of the waternozzle to start the water, sometimes there is a lever underfoot. It is always a puzzle for me. Paper or air, another dilemma. For paper, wouldn't you think it would just be easier to put some paper towels in a hanger on the wall, and let that be? No, they are attached to the wall with a light sensor, where you wave your hand over the red dot- but only a certain way will activate the paper, and only once you rip a certain way will it pay out again. The technique is exact, and if you have watched someone you can get it easy enough. The air issue is also a problem, since it never is enough. The blowing air leaves my hands damp, and so the question becomes, blow again? Or just wipe them on my pants or shirt? Then I think before I even start the blower, "Ah, heck, just wipe on the shirt and forget about the blower!" As I write all this about the modern day conveniences of the bathrooms I wonder do others really use them? Or do they get annoyed as I do, and just go home and use their regular old ones, which do just fine?
